🏰【A cult Sangiovese from Tuscany, Percarlo 2018 is a fabulous and highly acclaimed wine, dazzling with its total sense of finesse and remarkable aging potential.】 The 2018 Percarlo is described as "another fabulous wine" in this range, dazzling with its "total sense of finesse." It is silky, gracious, and super-refined. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and spice overtones. It shows remarkably well for a wine bottled recently. The wine was aged in a combination of 30HL casks and 500-liter tonneaux. It's 100% organic Sangiovese from a special 30-hectare site at 270 meters elevation. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and cement before oak aging. Percarlo is a monovarietal Sangiovese, debuting in 1983, and is the estate's most renowned bottling. Grapes are selected bunch by bunch from low-yielding vines, often harvested beyond usual ripeness levels. Maceration lasts 18-35 days, followed by 20-22 months in barrique and 6-18 months in bottle. Only about 1,600 cases are produced annually. This dense, tightly wound red offers tar, olive, and tobacco aromas giving way to dusty cherry and plum flavors. It is vibrant and firms up on the mineral-laden finish. Primary flavors include cherry, plum, blackberry, black plum, red cherry, prune. Aroma notes of tar, olive, tobacco, floral overtones, spice, mineral, baked clay, vanilla, sweet spice, dried orange blossom, saline, chinotto, dark chocolate, bay leaves, cloves, juniper berries. It has high tannin and acidity. It reveals a luxuriously rich and dense quality, with profound intensity built by deep fruit and elegant mineral etchings. It has a bright ruby color. The finely drawn nose reveals preserved cherry, blackberry, ripe plum, and fine tobacco notes. Lots of dense, compact, and gripping tannins, dark fruit, dark chocolate on the finish. Ripe and concentrated, showing notes of black plums, blackberries, sweet caramel, bay leaves, cloves, and juniper berries. Full body, smooth, and decidedly silky in the sip. Lush cherry on the nose, firm tannic structure, high acid. Leather, red plum, oak, sweet tobacco, tar.
🍴 This exceptional Sangiovese pairs beautifully with beef and venison dishes, such as Beef Peposo over Polenta.
