FEATURES
🏰 The 2008 vintage for Burgundy was largely very good, despite a damp, chilly spring. The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet 2008 is widely regarded as one of the best vintages from the domaine, with some critics calling it possibly the greatest white Burgundy ever tasted. It has been described as "close to perfection" and "off the charts," with only a mere 293 cases of this legendary wine in existence.
This Montrachet offers a breathtaking precision and minerality on the nose, an articulation of the vineyard's unique terroir. Expect overtly exotic aromas with notes of botrytis, pineapple, apricot, mango, spice, white peach, and citrus. The producer's own notes highlight its "unequaled complexity, its elegance and power make it an exceptional wine!" On the palate, it is bewitching with a perfect bead of acidity, laser-like focus, and a vein of salinité that leaves you craving more. It is broad-shouldered, extremely concentrated, plush, and opulent, culminating in an incredibly intense finish supported by a very firm acid spine. Layers of fruit literally explode in the glass, showing striking nuance and transparency, with finely chiseled mineral nuances saturating the palate through to an intensely saline finish. Additional notes include red apples, almonds, muted citrus, herbal-spice melange, toffee, vanilla bean, pastry, hazelnut cream, lime, grapefruit, citronella, and peach.
🥂 This is an aspirational wine, ideal for the most significant celebrations or a profound tasting experience. It is a wine that demands attention and appreciation, possessing superb power and balance that allows it to live for decades.
🍴 Classic food pairings include chicken and turkey. It is also exceptional when enjoyed alone as a meditation wine, or with a small portion of foie gras or a mild blue cheese such as Roquefort.
