🏰 The 1998 vintage for Chablis was considered good to very good, offering wines that are clean with finely chiselled fruit, and expressive florality and minerality as they develop. It was firmer than the 1997 but not as fine as the outstanding 1996 vintage. Despite some challenges like a hailstorm on the Grand Crus and oïdium attacks, the harvest looked promising, though a cool, rainy spell in early September added complexity. Raveneau is widely regarded as the greatest producer in Chablis, known for pioneering barrel fermentation and extended lees contact, resulting in wines of mineral purity. The 1998 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur, from 40-year-old vines on prime Kimmeridgian terrain, is known for elegance and purity, possessing vibrant acidity and mineral structure with floral and citrus notes. 【Raveneau is the undisputed greatest producer in Chablis.】
🍴 This Chablis Grand Cru pairs beautifully with rich fish like salmon or tuna, mild and soft cheeses, and delicate white fish with herb butter. It also shines with raw oysters and briny shellfish, or roast white meats and fresh seafood.
🥂 This elegant and age-worthy Chablis is perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special seafood celebration, or as a thoughtful gift for a collector of fine white Burgundy. Its ability to gain complexity over hours in the glass makes it ideal for a leisurely tasting experience.
