🏰The 2008 Vosne Romanee Les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a 【testament to the intricate dance between vine and vigneron in one of Burgundy's most prestigious appellations】. This vintage, initially challenging, yielded wines of elegance and fortitude, making it a contemplative investment. The 2008 Burgundy vintage was largely very good, especially for reds from the Cote de Nuits, with Vosne-Romanee being particularly successful. This wine unfurls with an aromatic kaleidoscope, featuring whispers of cherry blossom, wet earth, and restrained oak. On the palate, expect a synchrony of ripe cherries, blackcurrant undertones, and a filigreed vein of minerality. Reviewers note pronounced nose intensity with mushroom, spices, dried red cherry, and floral notes, leading to a medium+ acidity and medium tannin palate. It's described as very expressive and floral, with juicy organic red fruit spiced with Vosne spices like violets, peony rose, cinnamon, and allspice, offering a very energetic acidity and lovely minerality. It's drinking well now and can age further.
🍴This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic French dishes like roasted duck with cherry sauce, coq au vin, or a delicate beef bourguignon. For an Asian twist, consider Cantonese roasted goose or pan-seared Wagyu beef with a light soy glaze. Aged hard cheeses would also be a delightful match.
🥂【Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special anniversary celebration】, this wine is also an excellent choice for collectors looking to enjoy a mature, expressive Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, but the Liger-Belair family has experience in vineyards since 1815. . It is now managed by Louis-Michel Liguet, Comte de Belaire, who has begun planting vineyards again in Vonn-Romagne and Saint-Georges. Comte Liger-Belair now produces its only wine from La Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard located on the Romanée-Conti hills. The domaine also owns land in several Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyards. Although the domaine is young, its wines are elegantly structured and highly sought after. La Romanée is one of the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.
