🏰 【The 2023 Chateau Trotte Vieille, a seriously impressive Premier Grand Cru Classé B from Saint-Émilion, is praised for its powerful depth of fruit, agility, and structural balance.】 This Cabernet Franc-dominated Bordeaux blend (53% Cabernet Franc, 44% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon) from a superb terroir on the upper plateau of Saint-Émilion, exhibits a deep purple hue. Early reviews highlight a ripe, powerful nose of crème de cassis, dark and blue fruits, roasted herbs, tobacco, dark chocolate, and violets. The palate is concentrated, medium to full-bodied, with ripe, sweet, yet building tannins and a great finish, showcasing electric tension and super-fine satiny-smooth tannins.
🍴 This powerful young Bordeaux will pair well with robust dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game meats, or rich stews. Its structure and fruit concentration can also stand up to hard, aged cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional wine for collectors and those looking to invest in a promising young Bordeaux. While very young, it promises remarkable aging potential (drink 2029-2053). It's perfect for a future celebratory event or as a cellar cornerstone. Decanting for 2-3 hours is highly recommended to allow this youthful wine to express its complex aromatics and soften its firm tannins.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Trotte Vieille is an estate in Saint Emilion that dates back to 1453.Chateau Trotte Vieille's grand vin is Merlot-predominant, as is the second wine, La Vieille Dame de Trotte Vieille. Harvest is done by hand and the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats. This fermentation lasts approximately 15-20 days in the case of the grand vin, after which the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12-18 months.
