Laurent Ponsot, Clos St Denis Cuvee Du Merisier, 2022
🏰 The 2022 Laurent Ponsot Clos St Denis Cuvée du Merisier hails from a Burgundy vintage described as 【super-charming and forthcoming】, offering both red and white wines with a summer sunshine glow. Despite being the second-hottest summer since 2003, crucial rains and cool nights ensured a surprising freshness and energy, leading to wines that are balanced and approachable. The reds, in particular, are noted for their concentrated fruit character, aromatics, and structure, with moderate alcohol levels. This vintage is celebrated for its excellent quality and good yields, a welcome relief after previous challenging years.
🍴 This vibrant red Burgundy, with its expressive floral notes and ripe tannins, would be superb with classic French dishes like coq au vin or roasted duck breast. For an Asian twist, consider pairing it with Cantonese roast goose or char siu, where the wine's fruit and freshness can cut through the richness.
🥂 Ideal for a special dinner with friends, a wine club tasting focusing on new Burgundy releases, or as a sophisticated gift for a Pinot Noir enthusiast. Its approachable nature also makes it suitable for enjoying relatively young.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
