🏰 Specific vintage information for Gerin Côte Rôtie La Viallière 2015 is not widely available. However, Jean-Michel Gerin is a respected producer in Côte Rôtie, known for crafting Syrah wines that express the unique characteristics of this Northern Rhône appellation. The 'La Viallière' lieu-dit is particularly esteemed for producing powerful yet elegant wines. Generally, Côte Rôtie wines from a good vintage like 2015 would offer a complex bouquet of dark fruits, floral notes (like violet), and savory elements such as smoked meat or black olive, with firm tannins and excellent aging potential.
For aged wines like this, it's important to handle them with care. Older corks can be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is recommended. Decanting is often beneficial to allow the wine to breathe and separate from any sediment, typically for 1-2 hours, but monitor closely as older wines can fade quickly. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This robust Syrah would be magnificent with roasted lamb, venison, or a rich beef tenderloin. It also pairs beautifully with game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 Event suggestions: An excellent choice for a formal dinner, a special anniversary, or a gathering of serious wine enthusiasts who appreciate the complexity and evolution of aged Northern Rhône Syrah.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Michel Gerin owns 12 hectares of vines in the Cote Rotie appellation. Jean Michel Gerin Les Grandes Places is produced from a 1.4 hectare parcel of 40 year old Syrah vines in a terroir of mica and schist. The estate was created in 1983 by Jean Michel Gerin, although it was not until 1987 that he began to bottle and sell their wine.
