The 2009 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Corton Grand Cru marks a significant debut, being the first vintage of this wine after DRC leased Grand Cru vineyards in Clos du Roi, Bressandes, and Renardes in late 2008. This vintage is often described as opulent and powerful, yet with a hallmark core intensity and grip. Critics have praised its boisterous bouquet and layers of fruit that saturate the palate, making it a showstopper. It presents a deep red colour with an opulent scent of oriental spice, creamy, plush red and black fruit, and baked pea pod, with a teasing, almost animalistic quality. On the palate, it offers a combination of creamy texture and energy, with rich flavours of strawberry, raspberry, smoke, and minerals, complicated by chocolate and wild herbs. It's a firmly structured, very long wine with tannins fully enrobed by fruit, built to age. 【First vintage from DRC's Corton Grand Cru acquisition】. This wine is still brooding and introverted, requiring time to fully unfurl its complexities.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This robust red Burgundy pairs beautifully with hearty meat dishes such as roasted rabbit wrapped in bacon, venison, or lamb. It also complements mature cheeses and dishes with earthy, umami notes.
🥂 Event suggestions: An exceptional choice for a significant anniversary, a high-end tasting event, or a celebratory dinner where a powerful and age-worthy red Burgundy is desired. Its rarity and pedigree make it a conversation starter.
