🏰Chateau Cos d'Estournel's Les Pagodes de Cos 2013 is the estate's second wine, offering an 【elegant and accessible profile with exceptional depth of fruit for its category】. The 2013 Bordeaux vintage was challenging, marked by a cold, wet start, delayed budbreak, and uneven ripening, though Saint-Estèphe fared better than other appellations. This medium-bodied red presents a tight and chewy character with blackberry, dark chocolate, and toasted oak aromas and flavors. It is supple on the palate with fine, silky tannins, beautiful minerality, and hints of black fruit and spice, especially black pepper, leading to a light finish with beautiful fruity freshness.
🍴This versatile Bordeaux blend pairs perfectly with all types of classic meat dishes, including veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, and roast chicken. It also complements Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and venison.
🥂Ideal for an impromptu lunch with friends or a casual gathering, this wine is very accessible and forthcoming, offering immediate pleasure. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F). Young vintages can benefit from 2-4 hours of decanting to soften and open its perfume.
BACKGROUND
Cos d'Estournel is a vineyard and winery in the Saint-Estephe appellation of the Medoc. istorically, the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant grand vin has had a high percentage of Merlot compared with other Medoc growths, although this has lessened in recent years. The new winery, which was built in 2012, has four vats which can be lifted to allow processes to be gravity-fed. The grand vin is matured for 18 months in new oak barrels; Les Pagodes sees 12 months in new oak whilst Marbuzet and rouge are matured in 50 percent new wood. Annual production of the various wines varies between 200,000 and 380,000 bottles.
