Du Comte Liger-belair, Vosne Romanee Clos De Chateau, 2008
🏰 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's Vosne Romanée Clos de Château 2008 is an exceptional red Burgundy that triumphed over climatic challenges, emerging as a discerning collector's choice. 【This Burgundy vintage triumphed over climatic challenges to emerge as an exceptional choice for the discerning collector】. The 2008 vintage is noted for its extrovert youthful charm and a more brooding character that improves with air, revealing a magical sweet-sour interplay. The bouquet is light, leafy, and slightly autumnal, with noticeable sous-bois scents merging with light rustic red fruit, often soaring with a perfume of roses and an impression of stems. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a piquant entry, crisp acidity, and tangy marmalade and orange peel interlacing red cherries on a linear finish. It presents a delicate tapestry of red and dark berries, subtle earthiness, and whispers of spice, all within an elegantly structured frame with nuanced tannins. This wine offers cool, transparent fruit and a clear expression of its terroir, drinking far above its village designation.
🍴 While specific food pairings for this exact wine are not readily available, classic red Burgundy pairings would be ideal. Consider roasted game birds, duck, mushroom-based dishes, or delicate red meats like veal or lamb. Its elegance and nuanced profile would also complement truffle dishes or aged, savory cheeses.
🥂 This wine promises maturation and an evolving narrative, making it a superb choice for a special occasion or for those who appreciate the subtle complexities of a well-aged Burgundy. Its ability to improve with air suggests it's perfect for a thoughtful evening with friends or a quiet moment of contemplation.
BACKGROUND
Founded in 2000, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a relatively new wine producer in Burgundy, but the Liger-Belair family has experience in vineyards since 1815. . It is now managed by Louis-Michel Liguet, Comte de Belaire, who has begun planting vineyards again in Vonn-Romagne and Saint-Georges. Comte Liger-Belair now produces its only wine from La Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard located on the Romanée-Conti hills. The domaine also owns land in several Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyards. Although the domaine is young, its wines are elegantly structured and highly sought after. La Romanée is one of the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.
