🏰【A Languedoc standout, the 2016 Domaine de Montcalmes Terrasses du Larzac impresses with its rich black cherries and cranberry acidity, showcasing the region's capacity for graceful aging.】 The 2016 vintage in Languedoc was generally warm and sunny throughout the summer with usefully fresh nights, though some regions suffered from lack of rainfall, resulting in smaller yields of concentrated juice. These dry conditions reduced disease pressure, leading to good quality across reds and whites with high flavor intensity. The Syrah and Grenache are planted on a limestone plateau facing north, while the Mourvedre is on south-facing slopes with rolled pebbles similar to Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Tasting Note: Rich black cherries with cranberry acidity behind the bite of Mediterranean herbs. Tannins have integrated well, becoming settled and harmonious. The wine shows clean blackberry and cassis notes, with a silky palate, spice, fine-grained leather, and a touch of licorice on the finish. It has a nose of blackberries and cassis, spice, and fine shades of leather, developing aromas of ripe fruit, licorice, and spices on the palate with silky tannins.
🍴 Grilled meats (e.g., beef rib, roasted lamb with herbs, duck breast), game (wild boar stew, venison daube), and Mediterranean cuisine (moussaka, ratatouille, grilled vegetables with garrigue herbs). Also pairs well with lamb.
🥂 A powerful and refined wine, ideal for a gastronomic meal or a special dinner. It is currently at its peak maturity (2026-2030) and is built for aging. Decanting for an hour is sufficient to bring it to its optimum.
