FEATURES
🏰 The 2018 Chateau Rieussec Carmes de Rieussec is a 【delightful and approachable second wine from a Premier Cru Classé Sauternes, offering a harmonious balance of sweetness and acidity】. As the second wine of Château Rieussec, it's crafted from meticulously selected Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle, and Semillon, aged 18 months in French oak. This vintage presents a pale lemon-gold color, with a complex nose of very ripe fruit, acacia flowers, honey, and subtle wood notes. The palate is dense, unctuous, and generous, with strong fruit flavors like white peach and nectarine coated in acacia honey, leading to an ample finish with a hint of almond and candied lemon. It's a suave Sauternes that, while sweet, maintains a beautiful vivacity.
🍴 This sweet white wine is a classic pairing for foie gras and blue cheeses. It also excels with fruit tarts, crème brûlée, or other rich desserts. For a Chinese Cantonese pairing, consider almond jelly with fruit, or a delicate bird's nest soup, where the wine's sweetness can complement the dessert or provide a luxurious contrast to a savory dish.
🥂 Perfect for dessert, a celebratory toast, or as a luxurious aperitif to kick off a special meal.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Rieussec is a wine producer located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux. The 93 hectares (230 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly with Semillon, alongside plots of Sauvignon Blanc and a small amount of Muscadelle. The terroir in Sauternes helps the spread of Botrytis cinerea, and Rieussec's grapes are hand-harvested as they are affected by noble rot. The best bunches are used to make the grand vin, which after fermentation spends 26 months in oak, about half new. All other juice isused to make the second wine, Carmes de Rieussec, which is only aged for 18 months. A dry white wine, R de Rieussec, is made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and is partially barrel-fermented.
