Laurent Ponsot, Chambertin Clos De Beze Cuvee Du Frene Grand Cru, 2019
🏰 The 2019 Burgundy vintage is widely considered truly excellent, even legendary, despite a challenging growing season. A mild winter was followed by a chilly spring with April frosts, leading to reduced yields. Uneven flowering and summer heat and drought stress further impacted yields, but the surviving berries were richly concentrated. The resulting red wines are superb, complex, richly fruit-forward, and refined, with the best examples capable of cellaring for decades. The 2019 reds show a sleekness and refinement that resembles the 2010 vintage, with some critics calling the best 2019 reds a combination of 2010 and 2015. 【A small but jewel-like vintage, hard to go wrong with】.
🍴 Given the complexity and richness of a Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, it would pair exquisitely with sophisticated dishes such as roasted game birds, beef Wellington, or truffle-infused risottos. The wine's structure and fruit concentration can stand up to rich, flavorful cuisine.
🥂 This Grand Cru is perfect for significant celebrations, milestone anniversaries, or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs. Its aging potential makes it a fantastic addition to a cellar, and it promises to evolve beautifully over the coming decades.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
