Laurent Ponsot, Bonnes Mares Cuvee De L'amandier Grand Cru, 2021
🏰The 2021 Laurent Ponsot Bonnes Mares Cuvee de l'Amandier Grand Cru is a 【Pinot Noir of rare elegance and power, embodying the depth of one of the most iconic crus of the Côte de Nuits】. The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was challenging, with greatly affected yields, resulting in one of the smallest harvests ever seen. However, the reds are harmonious and elegant, with lower alcohol concentrations and a rather Burgundian style showing fruitiness and freshness. This cuvée, named after an almond tree near the vineyard, delivers intensity, complexity, and balance. It offers a deeply pitched nose with dark fruit, hints of spice, herbal tea, newly turned earth, and a floral top note. The palate boasts impressive volume and richness, with beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that lead to a strikingly long and youthfully austere finish. Expect a mix of soft red fruits, cherry, and strawberry, with silky tannins and vibrant freshness.
🍴 This powerful and elegant Grand Cru Burgundy is perfect with fine red meats, game, and roasted dishes. It beautifully complements delicate, sauced red meat dishes and most cheeses. Consider roasted game, wine-based or creamy sauces, and stews. Hare 'a la Royale' or Peking duck will be flattered by its virile tannins, adding structure to these highly aromatic and delicately textured meats. Strong cheeses like Epoisses are also an excellent match.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a grand celebration, a significant anniversary, or a serious wine tasting, this wine promises longevity and will evolve beautifully over decades. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
