FEATURES
🏰 The 1993 Chateau Montrose, from a challenging Bordeaux vintage, surprisingly offers sweetness, softness, and concentration, with a complex bouquet and impressive aging potential for its year. While the 1993 Bordeaux vintage was generally difficult due to heavy September rains, talented producers like Montrose managed to create excellent, concentrated, and elegant wines. This Saint-Estèphe 2nd Growth Grand Cru Classé is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot. Despite abundant rainfall during harvest, the grapes remained surprisingly healthy and ripe, with Merlots showing remarkable quality.
【It has a dense, brick red hue, slightly evolved. The nose displays aromas of leather, cocoa, truffle, mirabelle plum, and wax, alongside grilled meat, peppery, spicy, black fruit, smoke, herbs, minerals, and bell pepper. The palate delivers red fruits, leather, black fruit liquorice, with a very good, fleshy, elegant, slightly evolved character. It shows a firm, concentrated personality with moderate tannin, and a plush finish with a hint of acidity, complemented by tertiary notes of monk fruit, caramelised figs, toffee, and herbal/medicinal.】
🍴 Chinese Cantonese food pairing: This mature Bordeaux would be exquisite with slow-braised beef short ribs with dried tangerine peel, or a rich mushroom and abalone stew. For Western cuisine, consider roast lamb with herbs, gnocchi with a wild mushroom sauce, or aged parmesan cheese.
🥂 fit for event: A rare treat for a connoisseur, perfect for a significant anniversary or a special tasting event focused on mature Bordeaux. It's a testament to the longevity of well-made wines from challenging vintages. Given its age, expect potential sediment; decanting is recommended to separate sediment and allow the wine to breathe. Check the cork and capsule carefully. Serve at a cool cellar temperature (around 15-16°C).
