🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【A First Growth Sauternes from a challenging 1979 vintage, showcasing Chateau Climens' ability to produce a charming wine with fine structure and captivating candied citrus aromas.】 The 1979 vintage saw small yields due to spring frost, and while generally an average year for sweet wines, Climens often transcends vintage conditions. This Chateau Climens offers a fine structure with candied citrus and spicy aromas, presenting as a very charming wine. It is golden in color, with a greasy texture, and notes of saffron, candied orange, nutty, and roasted elements. Expect intense aromas of citrus fruits and exotic fruits. On the palate, it is elegant and splendidly concentrated, with excellent acidity and a sophisticated, long, caressing aftertaste.

🥂 fit for event suggestion IN ENGLISH
An exceptional choice for a celebratory dessert course, a milestone anniversary, or a contemplative tasting of aged sweet wines.
Serving suggestion: This 1979 Chateau Climens is a rare and mature sweet wine. Expect a deep golden hue and complex tertiary aromas of dried fruits, honey, and nuts. While Sauternes ages gracefully, the condition of the cork and fill level are crucial for wines of this age. Handle with extreme care. Decanting is generally not recommended for very old sweet wines as it can dissipate delicate aromas; instead, serve directly from the bottle after allowing it to stand upright for several days to settle any sediment. Be prepared for a potentially fragile cork.
BACKGROUND
Château Climens is a wine producer located in the Sauternes village of Barsac on the left bank of the Gironde River. The only grape planted in the vineyards at Château Climens is Semillon, which thrives on the limestone-rich soils in the vineyards. The grapes are harvested and brought into the winery, plot by plot, where they are gently pressed before fermentation in oak barrels. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels on lees for about 20 months. Wines from the best vintages can last decades – a recent tasting of the 1921 vintage revealed a rich, balanced and zesty wine.
