🏰The 1985 E. Guigal La Mouline is a 【legendary Cote Rotie, a historic blend of Syrah and Viognier known for its profound complexity and silky texture】 that has evolved beautifully over decades. At over 40 years old, this venerable vintage will showcase a captivating array of tertiary aromas: expect notes of dried fruits, leather, tobacco, forest floor, and game, interwoven with savory spices. While the vibrant primary fruit will have softened, a core of dark fruit character should still be present, gracefully lifted by the Viognier's floral essence. This wine embodies the elegance and aging potential of top Northern Rhone Syrah.
🍴 This aged La Mouline is a magnificent partner for classic meat dishes such as slow-cooked lamb shoulder, saddle of venison with black pepper, or rich game birds. It also pairs well with aged Comté or Beaufort cheese, or even hearty Chinese and Asian dishes.
🥂 A truly historic bottle for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, a vertical tasting of Guigal La Mouline, or a dinner for a serious collector of aged Rhone wines. This is a profound experience for those who appreciate the beauty of mature, complex wines.
Serving Suggestion: For a 1985 vintage, extreme care is needed. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week to allow all sediment to settle. Decant very carefully, just before serving, using a light source to ensure no sediment enters the decanter. Older corks can be very fragile, so a Durand opener or an Ah-So might be beneficial. Serve at cellar temperature (around 16-18°C). Be prepared for the possibility of bottle variation due to age, but approach with positive anticipation for a potentially sublime experience.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
