🏰The 2011 Georges Roumier Morey St Denis Clos de la Bussiere 1er Cru is a 【monopole that remains one of Roumier's most under-appreciated wines, offering a real treat for those who can cellar it】. This red Burgundy from a lighter vintage is praised for its amazing transparency and excellent detail. It presents dark plum and cherry notes, melding into cloves, menthol, and spices, with layered complexity and underlying minerality. While some critics noted a stemmy character, others highlighted its vivid transparency, killer length, and firm mineral core. Flavors of violet, cherry, currant, spice, and mineral contribute to its expressive profile.
🍴 This powerful and full-bodied Morey St Denis pairs wonderfully with meats of character. Consider game birds, juicy steaks, prime rib, or rich red meats like Châteaubriand. It also complements strong cheeses and mushroom-based dishes.
🥂 An excellent choice for a serious Burgundy collector, a special occasion demanding a nuanced and evolving red, or a contemplative tasting. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F) and consider decanting for an hour or two to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Georges Roumier is a wine producer based in the Côte de Nuits village of Chambolle-Musigny that produces some of the most expensive, best-rated and most popular wines in Burgundy. The winery did not purchase the land directly, but used the French sharecropper/lease system, in which individuals farmed the land for the owner in exchange for a certain percentage of agricultural products. Now, Christophe has taken over the work of the winery and has become the owner of the winery. The current winemaker of the village. He pays close attention to terroir, so little new oak is used, and fermentation temperatures are kept low to allow the wine’s delicious flavors and aromas to shine through.
