🏰 The 2004 Jacques Prieur Chambertin Grand Cru offers a fascinating glimpse into a mature Burgundy vintage. While 2004 was a challenging year in Burgundy, particularly for Pinot Noir due to issues like ladybug taint in some areas, top producers like Domaine Jacques Prieur, with their meticulous vineyard management and winemaking, were able to craft wines of elegance and character. Jacques Prieur is renowned for owning some of Burgundy's most prestigious Grand Cru parcels, and their Chambertin is a testament to their commitment to quality. At nearly two decades old, this Chambertin Grand Cru is likely to display a beautiful evolution, moving beyond primary fruit to reveal complex tertiary aromas of forest floor, dried leaves, mushroom, and savory notes, alongside lingering red fruit. 【 A mature expression of a revered Grand Cru 】. When handling a wine of this age, exercise care with the cork and capsule. A gentle decant for 30-60 minutes can help separate any sediment and allow the wine to open up, but avoid over-aeration. Serve at a cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F) in large, Burgundy-specific glasses to capture its delicate aromatics. This wine is a journey through time, best savored slowly.
🍴 A mature Chambertin Grand Cru, with its evolved flavors and delicate structure, pairs exquisitely with refined dishes. Consider roasted game birds like pheasant or duck, mushroom-based dishes, or a classic coq au vin. It would also be superb with a delicate beef tenderloin or a truffle-infused risotto. For cheese, opt for semi-hard, aged cheeses that won't overpower the wine's subtleties.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a truly special occasion, such as a significant anniversary, a milestone birthday, or a sophisticated dinner with discerning palates. Its age and pedigree make it a contemplative wine, perfect for an evening focused on appreciating its history and nuanced development.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jacques Prieur is a relatively large Burgundy producer that makes both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from esteemed vineyard holdings across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, France. The history of the domaine began in the 1860s, with the marriage of Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau. They first established the wine and spirits merchant business, Duvergey-Taboureau House, before buying property in Meursault – now the site of the modern Domaine Jacques Priuer.
