WINE REGION
France Burgundy Grands Echezeaux
FEATURES
🏰 The 1983 Burgundy vintage experienced a warm and sunny summer, with autumn rains preventing the grapes from drying out. Temperatures dropped in early September, slowing ripening, but the weather improved later. Wines from this vintage matured faster than 1982, generally being robust, lush, and enjoyable at this stage. Some reds were notably tannic and harsh when young, though many have softened over time. While specific tasting notes for the 1983 Francois Lamarche Grands Echezeaux are rare, general descriptions for Grands Echezeaux include rich and powerful profiles, with concentrated dark cherry, blackberry, and plum flavours, layered with earthy, spicy, and smoky nuances. Expect firm tannins and vibrant acidity providing structure, leading to a long finish. For a comparable 1983 Grands Echezeaux (from DRC), notes highlighted exquisite floral and forest floor aromatics, with noticeable structure and tannins, just beginning to show roundness. 【 A Grand Cru 布根地 from a renowned estate, offering the potential for profound complexity and elegance with age. 】 🍴 This Grand Cru Burgundy red pairs exceptionally well with roasted game, beef bourguignon, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses. 🥂 This is a wine for contemplation and appreciation, ideally suited for a significant anniversary or a gathering of serious Burgundy collectors. It is currently at a truly enjoyable age. Serving Advice for this venerable 1983 vintage: Approaching a wine of this age requires utmost care. The cork will likely be fragile; a two-pronged cork puller (Ah-So) or a Durand is highly recommended to prevent breakage. Stand the bottle upright for several days, if not weeks, before opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently just before serving, primarily to separate the wine from its sediment. Be prepared for potential fragility and a delicate aromatic profile. Serve at a cool cellar temperature (around 16-18°C) in large Burgundy glasses to allow its delicate, aged bouquet to fully express itself.
BACKGROUND
François Lamarche is a historic winery located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche and his wife, Marie Grivelet, both of whom hailed from Burgundy and had extensive experience in wine production. In 2019, the current owner, Nicole Lamarche, officially renamed the winery to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, and from the 2018 vintage onwards, the wines no longer bear the name of the former owner, François Lamarche.
