🏰 The 2010 Saparale Casteddu is an 【intense Corsican red wine, offering a complex and delicate aromatic palette】 that speaks of its unique terroir. Made from Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu grapes, this wine reveals an intense nose of spices, cooked fruit, roasting, and chocolate. Its beautiful garnet red color takes on brown highlights as it ages. The mouth is greedy, powerful, and robust, with a lot of body and a very great length, making it a beautiful wine to keep.
🍴 This full-bodied Corsican red pairs exquisitely with red meats in sauce, game dishes, spicy cuisine, and racy cheeses. Its robust character also complements rich charcuterie boards and Mediterranean-inspired meat dishes.
🥂 Ideal for a hearty dinner with friends, a special occasion that calls for a mature and characterful red, or for those who appreciate the unique expressions of Corsican wines. It's a wine that rewards patience and offers a glimpse into the island's winemaking heritage.
Serving suggestion: This 2010 vintage is a mature wine, so handle the cork and capsule with care. It's a wine for keeping, and at 16 years old, it should be showing lovely tertiary development. Open 3 to 4 hours before serving or decant for one hour to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold. Serve at 17°C.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Saparale is a historic estate in the Sartène appellation of Corsica, revived by Philippe Farinelli. 'Casteddu' is their flagship red, typically a blend of indigenous Sciaccarellu and Niellucciu. It is a powerful, sun-drenched wine with notes of wild herbs (maquis), dark berries, and spicy tannins.
