FEATURES
🏰 The 2018 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru is a distinguished expression of its historic monopole terroir, a formidable yet polished ensemble that promises both immediate allure and lucrative longevity. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was lauded for its reliably warm rays and infrequent rainfalls, setting the stage for grapes to ripen with sublime consistency, yielding fruit of profound concentration without forgoing quintessential freshness. Clos de Tart vines, entrenched deep within their historical appellation's chalky soils, basked in this climatic benevolence. 2018 marked a new chapter for Clos de Tart as it was purchased by the Artémis Group (also owning Château Latour) from the Mommessin family in October 2017. This is a powerful, broad-shouldered Clos de Tart that has more in common with the wines of the Pitiot era.
👃 The nose proffers layered bouquets of cherry compote, wild berries, and subtle umami intimations, a nod to its carefully orchestrated aging in French oak. It opens with rich aromas of raspberries, plum preserve, ripe berries, warm spices, and rose petals, framed by a generous touch of creamy new oak. The palate is greeted by velvet tannins and seamless integration of spice box nuances amidst a core of plush red fruit. Full-bodied, layered, and concentrated, it's rich, muscular, and extracted, with a brooding, introverted profile. It has wonderful focus and profound complexity, with finely chiseled tannins married with a killer line of natural acidity, and layers of dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and tea leaf on the finish.
🍴 This Grand Cru Pinot Noir would be exceptional with roasted game birds, beef bourguignon, truffle-infused dishes, or aged hard cheeses.
🥂 A truly special wine for a momentous occasion, a serious wine tasting, or as a cornerstone for a fine wine collection. It requires and will reward patience, with a drinkable window extending to 2050.
