🏰 The 2021 vintage in Piedmont, particularly for Nebbiolo-based wines like Gattinara, is showing great promise. Early reports suggest intense and balanced wines with pronounced acidity, high phenolic concentration, and elevated alcohol. The fruit is fragrant and clear, without overripe notes. Nervi Conterno, a highly respected producer in Gattinara, is known for crafting Nebbiolo wines that beautifully express their terroir. Their Gattinara Vigna Molsino is a single-vineyard expression that typically showcases remarkable structure, elegance, and longevity. The 2021 vintage, compared to 2020, is expected to have more pronounced tannins and greater aging potential. This wine will likely offer a complex bouquet of red berries, floral notes, and earthy undertones, evolving with age to reveal tar, rose, and licorice nuances. 【 A powerful and age-worthy Gattinara from a promising Nebbiolo vintage 】.
🍴 This structured Gattinara is an excellent match for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, truffle-infused pasta, roasted game, or aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano. Its firm tannins and acidity can cut through rich flavors beautifully.
🥂 Ideal for a special occasion, a formal dinner, or as a significant addition to a fine wine collection. Given its youth and structure, decanting for 2-3 hours is highly recommended to allow the wine to open up and soften its tannins. Serve at 16-18°C (61-64°F) in large, appropriate wine glasses.
BACKGROUND
Nervi is the oldest winery in the Gattinara appellation of Northern Piedmont, founded in 1906. In 2018, it was acquired by the legendary Barolo producer Roberto Conterno. The Vigna Molsino is one of Italy's greatest single vineyards for Nebbiolo. Grown on volcanic soils, the wine is renowned for its incredible structure, soaring aromatics, and profound aging potential.
