Joseph Colin, Chassagne Montrachet Hereditas, 2023
🏰 The 2023 Joseph Colin Chassagne-Montrachet Hereditas is a promising white Burgundy, described as a lively, fruit-driven wine with good mid-palate weight and a saline finish. Neal Martin of Vinous rated it 93 points, noting a floral bouquet with orchard fruit (apricot blossom) and a touch of melted candle wax, with a fresh, vibrant palate and a peachy finish. Allen Meadows of Burghound gave it 91 points, highlighting pretty floral nuances, ripe white orchard fruit, rosemary oil, and a whiff of petrol character. Hereditas is an assemblage of several Chardonnay plots around Chassagne, intended as a snapshot of the domaine's style, often from 70+ year-old vines bordering Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. It's fermented with indigenous yeast in older barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. 【 Overdelivers for its level 】.
🍴 This vibrant Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, crab pasta, fresh seafood, and mild, soft cheeses. Its crisp acidity and mineral-tinged finish would also complement richer fish dishes or creamy sauces.
🥂 Excellent for a celebratory meal, a sophisticated lunch, or as an impressive introduction to Joseph Colin's style. While enjoyable in its youth, it has aging potential for the next 5-10 years. Serve chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F).
