🏰 The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is generally hailed as a truly outstanding year for both reds and whites. However, Frédéric Mugnier himself noted that 2023 was a challenging year for his estate due to unexpected rain causing swollen berries with thin skins, which risked acid rot, necessitating extensive sorting. He drew a comparison to the 2002 vintage, hoping these wines would develop beautifully despite a lighter start. The vineyard, known as "Les Fuées"—a traditional Burgundian term for the area a man can plough in a day with a hoe—possesses a strong personality among Chambolle-Musigny Premier Crus, offering a more mineral and earthy nuance than other village sectors, with a core of black fruits. The vines, planted in 1960, yield magnificent small berries with thick skins.
This wine presents aromas of wild blueberries, raspberry preserve, rose petals, and spices. It is medium to full-bodied, fleshy, and perfumed, with an enveloping core of fruit, sweet tannins, and a long, rose-inflected finish. Expect softer strawberry notes with fair depth, appearing more open and evolved than typically expected, alongside a slight chocolate nuance. It displays a pronounced nose intensity with violet, flora, and red fruits, showcasing a bright red ruby color. On the palate, it's dark, plush, and offers impressive depth and integration even in its youth, with ripe, silky-fine tannins and plenty of flesh towards the finish. 【 Essence of Chambolle-Musigny's pure perfume, silk, and lift 】
🍴 This elegant Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with classic Burgundian fare such as roast duck, goose, or other game birds. It would also complement dishes featuring mushrooms or a delicate coq au vin.
🥂 This wine is hard to resist in its youth and is gorgeous now, though it will certainly reward patience. It's perfect for a celebratory dinner, a serious wine tasting, or as a thoughtful gift for a Burgundy enthusiast.
