【A powerful and complex Grosses Gewachs Riesling from the renowned Forster Ungeheuer vineyard, showcasing a richer, riper style balanced by impressive tension and a long, mineral finish.】 This Riesling GG (Grosses Gewachs) hails from the Pfalz region of Germany, specifically Forst an der Weinstrasse. The grapes are biodynamically and organically grown, reflecting a commitment to sustainable viticulture. The wine is aged on lees in 500L barrels for 18 months.
This 2018 vintage presents a medium lemon color. The nose offers flint, citrus, and stone fruit, with a floral bouquet of pear and stone fruits. Expect notes of lemon curd, orange peels, green apple, peach, passion fruit, and herbal elements like mint, lemongrass, chervil, and tarragon. It embodies a richer, riper style of Riesling, balanced by plenty of tension. The palate is powerful with yellow stone fruits, not overly sweet, and boasts a good acidity structure. A touch of residual sugar coupled with oak initially creates a rich feel, but the acidity becomes more prominent as it warms, maintaining balance with a tight acid core. It has an impressive structure where stony minerality and fine tannins are neatly interlocked, leading to a complex citrus character and an impressively long, mineral finish. This Riesling is bone-dry, with subtle concentration, lightness, and flow, finishing with gentle lemon notes.
