🏰The 1982 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Landonne is a 【monstrous, super concentrated wine with fabulous depth, revealing an olive, earthy, licorice, mineral, and smoked-meat nose】. Despite 1982 being considered a precocious or even supposedly 'off' vintage for the Northern Rhone, this La Landonne remains a backward, beefy, smoky, and chewy mouthful of tannic wine, showing incredible aromatics of earth, cinnamon, spices, and iron. It has thrown a huge amount of sediment and is fully mature, blossoming with time in the glass, offering notes of cured meats, spice, dried flowers, and sweet Syrah meatiness. Anticipated maturity was 2000-2025, and while it's not going to get better, it's certainly not over the hill and can be enjoyed over the coming decade.
🍴 This powerful and concentrated Syrah is an ideal partner for rich, savory dishes. Classic pairings include roast rack of lamb with a beef jus reduction, grilled or roasted red meats like rib of beef, duck breast, or leg of lamb with herbs. It also excels with game meats such as wild boar, venison, or hare in a grand veneur sauce. For cheese, opt for mature, hard, and salty varieties like aged Cheddar, Gouda, or Comté.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly special celebration or a connoisseur's dinner, offering a profound and complex experience. Kindly reminder of old cork and capsule. Serving: For a wine of this age, expect some sediment. Decanting is highly recommended to separate the wine from its sediment and allow it to breathe, revealing its complex tertiary aromas. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to fully appreciate its bouquet. Be mindful of the cork, which may be fragile.
