FEATURES
🏰 The 1985 Château La Lagune is a beautiful bottle that has reached its apogee of peak drinkability, offering superb complexity and elegance. It's considered a 【great, classic vintage for La Lagune that still has decades of life ahead of it】. While Robert Parker noted it as fully mature in 2003, John Gilman suggests its longevity continues.
This wine displays a dark plum color, with a sweet nose of plums, cherries, and licorice, intermixed with some toasty new oak. It's elegant and fresh with a minty, berry character. Expect dark berries, cigar smoke, complex dark soil tones, a touch of chipotle pepper, and discreet vanillin oak. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, moderately weighty, soft, and supple-textured, yet full-bodied, complex, and perfectly balanced, with excellent mid-palate depth, fine focus and grip, fleeting tannins, and a lovely, stylish finish. Classic aged Bordeaux notes include blackcurrant, black plum, cigar box, gravel, leather, and a touch of Brett, along with damp undergrowth, delicate animal nuances, and a melting texture with delicate mint and a fresh acid structure.
This is an older wine, and while it's drinking beautifully, it may be fragile. Expect some natural sediment. When opening, use a Durand or Ah-So opener to minimize the risk of cork breakage. Decanting is recommended to allow the wine to breathe and separate from sediment, but for older wines, a shorter decant (30-60 minutes) is often preferable to preserve delicate tertiary aromas. Serve at a cool cellar temperature of 15.5°C (60°F) to enhance its freshness.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux pairs exquisitely with grilled red meat, game dishes, hard cheeses like Comté, refined patés, beef, venison, veal, pork, lamb, duck, and roast chicken.
🥂 Ideal for a landmark anniversary, a significant birthday, or a special gathering where a truly classic and aged Bordeaux is appreciated.
