🏰 This 1993 Chateau Cantemerle, a distinguished 5ème Cru Classé Haut-Médoc, is a 【beautifully aged Bordeaux from a respectable vintage, offering complex tertiary aromas and a harmonious, evolved palate】. The 1993 vintage, characterized by a hot, dry summer after a cool spring, produced wines that are "supple and fruity, full-bodied and voluminous". It presents an intense garnet-red color with tile-like highlights. On the nose, expect complex aromas of red fruits, black fruits, spices, tobacco, and leather, with attractive notes of pepper and licorice. The palate is powerful yet harmonious, with good acidity and soft, ripe tannins leading to a long, persistent finish.
🍴 This classic Bordeaux is an excellent companion for grilled red meats, game dishes, and blue-veined cheeses. It also pairs wonderfully with roasted lamb, hearty stews, or even Asian-inspired meat dishes.
🥂 Ideal for a special anniversary, a sophisticated dinner party, or a moment to appreciate the grace of a well-aged claret.
*Serving Suggestion*: For a wine of this age, stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for older red wines to separate sediment and allow the wine to breathe, but do so gently and just before serving to preserve delicate aromas. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for a potentially fragile cork.
BACKGROUND
Château Cantemerle is a Bordeaux fifth growth, located in the Haut-Medoc on the left bank of the Gironde river. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and is made in a structured but fruit-driven style. Château Cantemerle can be enjoyed young but can also age for a decade or more. The estate has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, with the first mention of wines from the property coming in the 14th Century. The modern history of the château began in 1892 with Théophile-Jean Dubos' purchase of the estate, and was passed down through the family until the 1980s. Many of Cantemerle's vineyards were pulled out during the two world wars, and were replanted in the 1980s, expanding the vineyard area from 20 hectares (50 acres) to 90ha (220 acres) by 1999.
