🏰 The 2021 Domaine Launay-Horiot Pommard Les Perrieres is a testament to a challenging yet ultimately rewarding Burgundy vintage, offering a return to a classic, elegant style. Despite historically low yields due to severe April frosts and mildew pressure, the cooler-than-usual growing season resulted in wines of very good quality, characterized by a refined profile without excessive alcohol. This Pommard presents a fresh and decidedly earthy nose, brimming with notes of mostly red berries and a hint of sauvage. On the palate, expect a lovely sense of underlying tension and fine detail to the delicious middleweight flavors, culminating in a youthfully austere and slightly lean finish that promises to flesh out with a few years of cellaring. It's noted for its ample red fruit and plum flavours, with gentle earthiness on a long, poised finish, making it one of the finest Pommards tasted in a long time.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as roasted duck with cherry reduction, pan-seared lamb chops with herbs, or a rich beef bourguignon. For a lighter touch, consider mushroom risotto or truffle pasta. It also complements Cantonese dishes like braised pigeon or roasted goose with plum sauce, and Western fare like grilled portobello mushrooms or a delicate cheese platter featuring aged Comté.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a quiet evening appreciating a fine, age-worthy Burgundy. It's an excellent choice for collectors seeking a classic expression of Pommard. This wine is best served at around 16-18°C (60-64°F) after a brief decant to allow its delicate aromas to unfold.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Launay-Horiot is a wine producer based in the village of Pommard, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. It makes a range of Pinot Noir based wines from the Pommard and Gevrey-Chambertin appellations, the latter further north in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine is overseen by former fighter pilot Xavier Horiot.
