🏰 The 2013 Bizot Echezeaux Grand Cru is a 【rare and profoundly expressive Burgundy from one of the Côte de Nuits' most cult and minimalist producers】. Bizot's philosophy of extremely low yields, organic viticulture, and non-interventionist winemaking results in wines of remarkable intensity, purity, and individuality. The 2013 vintage, while perhaps a touch lighter-bodied than some, produced good wines that are earlier maturing. This Échézeaux opens with a deep, complex bouquet of black cherry, wild raspberry, rose petal, and violet, layered with notes of spice, incense, graphite, and forest floor. On the palate, it's intense yet remarkably refined, with a dense core of dark fruit framed by firm, finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity, revealing a mineral-driven backbone and a long, focused finish.
🍴 This powerful yet cerebral Grand Cru Burgundy is a wine that can be the focal point of an evening. Exceptional pairings include roasted game birds like woodcock or wild duck with truffle jus, venison medallions with wild mushroom ragout, or Bresse chicken with morels and cream. It also pairs beautifully with mature cheeses like Époisses de Bourgogne or aged Comté.
🥂 This 2013 Bizot Echezeaux Grand Cru is ideal for a 【truly special occasion or a vertical/horizontal tasting with other top Echezeaux producers】. It's a wine of great character and collector appeal, ready to drink now but with potential for further evolution. Given its age, ensure the cork and capsule are in good condition. Decanting for 30 minutes to an hour can enhance its aromatic complexity. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Yves Bizot is a small Burgundy wine producer located in the Côte de Nuits, making Pinot Noir on several small plots of the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyard and the Grand Cru chézeaux vineyard. It also produces small amounts of Chardonnay at the village and Burgundy Blanc levels, and has plots in Massanai and Burgundy Chapit. The total area of the estate is just over three hectares. The current incarnation of the domaine was founded in 1995, when Jean Yves Bizot, a professor of oenology, inherited the domaine and vineyards from his family and followed a largely unconventional winemaking process. Intervention methods.
