【From one of Piedmont's most admired new winemakers, the 2021 Philine Isabelle Langhe Nebbiolo is a biodynamic, allocated gem, offering an elegant and pure expression of Nebbiolo with vibrant red fruit and a finely structured palate.】 Philine Isabelle, a German-born winemaker, is making waves in Europe and the U.S. with her elegant, fine-tuned, biodynamic Nebbiolo from Falletto and La Morra. Her wines are allocated and hard to come by. The 2021 vintage experienced water stress, leading to extensive work in the vineyard, and resulted in a slightly drier tannin matrix than usual for her wines. The grapes come from the Castagni La Morra vineyard, planted in 2001, with deep calcareous marl soils over limestone bedrock. Fermentation involves 18 days of maceration and fermentation in untoasted, 3rd-use Mittelberger casks and concrete, followed by aging in 2nd year Mitterberger barrels. This wine displays a pretty garnet color with a tightly coiled but alluring nose of small red berries, striking Nebbiolo aromas, and a clear vein of freshly milled white pepper. The palate offers purity of fruit, tension, and energy, with precise, fine-grained tannins and flavors of red berry fruits and blue flowers.
