🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【Biodynamically cultivated Chenin Blanc from the famed Montbenault parcel, known for its volcanic rhyolite soil, crafted with a low-intervention philosophy.】 Thomas Batardière established his estate in Rablay-sur-Layon in 2012, committed to biodynamic farming across his small, four-hectare property. The Chenin Blanc vines for "Les Noëls de Montbenault" were planted in 2014 on volcanic rhyolite soil. Winemaking involves hand-harvesting, whole-bunch direct pressing to stainless steel, spontaneous fermentation, and 12 months aging in 500L neutral tonneaux. The wines are bottled unfined, unfiltered, with minimal SO2, reflecting Thomas's aim to make zero-sulphur wines. As the 2024 vintage is a future release, specific tasting notes are not available. However, previous vintages of "Les Noëls de Montbenault" are characterized by a defined mineral character, notes of green apple, lemon peel, and a saline, stony texture. They often exhibit flinty notes, strong acidity, balance, and significant minerality, with hints of citrus, apple, and spice.
