🏰 The 2024 vintage for Thomas Batardiere Les Cocus is a future release, with the wine expected to arrive in late April 2026. This Chenin Blanc comes from a single, certified biodynamic parcel named Les Cocus, planted in 1968 in Faye d'Anjou. The terroir is characterised by shallow clay soils over schist, with good wind exposure, which helps preserve acidity. The winemaking involves natural fermentation and ageing on fine lees in used 500L barrels, with minimal sulfur added at bottling. Early indications suggest a deep golden colour with pure, crystalline fruit, sleek minerality, and a profound texture. Expect notes of ripe Chenin pear, alongside intriguing hints of algae, marine scents, tea leaves, rock, and lemon peel, with an ever-present sulphurous note. 【A biodynamic Chenin Blanc from a single, schist-rich plot, known for its mineral-driven profile and aging potential.】
🍴 This vibrant Chenin Blanc is versatile with food. It pairs well with stinky cheeses, roast white meats, braised dishes, and white sauces. Consider also fresh cheeses, risotto, or even salted butter and anchovies to complement its unique profile.
🥂 As a very young, biodynamic wine, the 2024 Les Cocus is an exciting discovery for those who appreciate natural winemaking and emerging vintages. It offers a nice tension and vivacity that make it enjoyable now, but also possesses the structure to age gracefully for another 5-10 years.
