🏰 The 2014 Rayas Chateau de Fonsalette Reserve comes from a Southern Rhone vintage that, despite being challenging, produced 【elegant and fresh wines for those who managed the weather well】. Fonsalette is renowned for its unique, often lighter-bodied yet intensely aromatic style of Grenache. Expect a wine with delicate red fruit aromas of 【raspberry and cherry, complemented by floral notes, garrigue, and a hint of spice】. It is likely medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity, showcasing elegance rather than brute power.
🍴 This elegant Rhone red pairs beautifully with roasted poultry (chicken, guinea fowl), lighter game, or mushroom dishes. Its subtlety also makes it an excellent companion for a refined charcuterie board.
🥂 A sophisticated choice for a dinner with discerning wine lovers, or a special meal where the wine is meant to be the star. It's approachable now but will continue to evolve gracefully with a few more years in the cellar.
BACKGROUND
Château Rayas is a leading producer in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the Rhône Valley, France. It is one of the region's most prestigious estates, and its wines fetch some of the highest prices in southern France. The estate covers 22 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards. Most of their vines are planted to Grenache. The estate's red wine is made solely from Grenache. The château's white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is generally made from Grenache Blanc and Clairette in roughly equaly proportions. Château Rayas has been in the Reynaud family since the 1880s.
