🏰The 2001 Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru is a magnificent example from a producer renowned for crafting 【Volnay wines of unparalleled elegance and purity】. The 2001 vintage in Burgundy was a classic year, producing wines with excellent balance, freshness, and structure, ideal for long-term aging. This wine, from one of Volnay's most esteemed vineyards, typically offers a delicate yet complex bouquet of red cherries, wild berries, rose petals, and a distinct mineral streak, with silky tannins and a long, ethereal finish.
🍴 This refined red Burgundy is a superb match for delicate poultry dishes like roasted quail, pan-seared duck breast, or a mushroom and truffle pasta. For an Asian pairing, consider Cantonese steamed chicken with goji berries or a light char siu.
🥂 An exquisite choice for a sophisticated dinner, a special anniversary, or a contemplative tasting among Burgundy aficionados.
Kindly note that for a wine of this venerable age, the condition of the cork and capsule can vary. While we anticipate a magnificent experience, older wines can sometimes show bottle variation. Enjoy the journey of discovery!
BACKGROUND
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is a Burgundy producer focusing on Pinot Noir from highly regarded vineyards in the Côte du Beaune, France. The domaine gained fame in the 1920s when it began to make and bottle its own wine, at a time when the common practice was for élevage and bottling to take place in the hands of négociants. Marquis d'Angerville circumvented the négociants entirely by commercializing its own wine, becoming one of the leading producers to do so. Since the death of Jacques D’Angerville in 2003, the running of the estate is currently overseen by his son Guillaume.
