🏰 Quinta do Vale Meão's 2001 Douro red wine comes from a vintage noted for producing intense, fresh, and fruity wines with good structure and aging potential. Quinta do Vale Meão boasts a rich history, founded in 1877 by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, who envisioned creating a model vineyard. The estate, now run by her descendants, the Olazabal family, blends tradition—such as foot-treading in ancient stone lagares—with modern technology like temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation. This pioneering estate was historically the source of fruit for the legendary Barca Velha. The 2001 Douro red is described as very concentrated in colour, with a deep and complex nose full of aromatic nuances. On the palate, it is vibrant and elegant, showing excellent integration of oak, a surprisingly wide variety of flavours, and a very long aftertaste. 【A powerful and elegant Douro red from the acclaimed 2001 vintage, produced by the historic Quinta do Vale Meão, a pioneering estate in the region's winemaking.】
🍴 This full-bodied Douro red is an excellent match for rich, earthy meat dishes such as venison, wild boar, or roasted and stewed beef. It also pairs wonderfully with traditional Portuguese fare like Posta Mirandesa (grilled veal steak), Arroz de Pato (duck rice), or Porco à Moda do Douro (pork cheeks slow-cooked in wine). Mature cheeses, especially local goat cheese, would also be a fine accompaniment.
🥂 Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a gathering of food and wine lovers, or a special occasion where a wine with historical significance and robust character is desired. It's a fantastic choice for exploring the depth of Portuguese table wines.
