🏰 The 2023 vintage in Roussillon, while marked by adaptation and harmony, presented a unique set of conditions. An unusually dry early spring led to a delayed bud-burst, and a persistent water deficit made 2023 one of the driest years in the region. Winemakers meticulously managed their vineyards to mitigate hydric stress, and timely summer thunderstorms in July and August allowed for slow, optimal grape ripening. The generally dry conditions also ensured exceptionally healthy grapes, with minimal fungal disease pressure. Despite an early harvest due to August heat, cooler nights at higher altitudes helped preserve aromatic freshness and acidity, resulting in a promising vintage with diverse characteristics. This Côtes du Roussillon Villages red, typically a blend of Syrah, Garnacha, Cariñena, and Mourvèdre, showcases a dark, almost black hue. The nose is vibrant, offering classic Syrah notes of red currant jelly, spices, and a hint of licorice. On the palate, it's concentrated and brimming with fresh fruit, supported by firm yet silky tannins, culminating in a surprisingly graphite-like finish. Expect a powerful and rich wine with a creamy texture and a long, fresh finish, reflecting the unique terroir of clay-limestone slopes and complex geology. 【Hervé Bizeul's pioneering spirit and the estate's status as a benchmark in Roussillon】 make this a highly anticipated release.
🍴 This robust red wine is a superb match for rich, savory dishes. Consider pairing it with a classic rabbit terrine, veal liver deglazed with balsamic vinegar, or a hearty beef stew with tagliatelle. It also complements red meats and game beautifully, such as grilled rib-eye steak with rosemary, a Moroccan lamb tagine, or even wild boar stew. For cheese lovers, aged Manchego or soft, washed-rind cheeses like Langres or Livarot would be an excellent choice.
🥂 Perfect for an anniversary dinner or as a thoughtful gift, this wine is designed for special occasions. While enjoyable in its youth with decanting, it also possesses excellent cellaring potential, allowing it to evolve and acquire more mature characteristics over 8 to 15 years. Serve between 16-18°C, ideally after decanting for at least two hours to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
