Marc Kreydenweiss, Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives, 2018
🏰 The 2018 vintage in Alsace was marked by warm and dry conditions, with timely rainfall that ensured optimal grape maturity. These ideal circumstances facilitated the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), leading to the production of excellent Late Harvest wines. It is hailed as an exceptional vintage. This Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives displays a beautiful bright yellow color. The nose is rich, pure, elegant, and refined, with enticing notes of spices, exotic fruits, and lychees. Additional aromas include candied fruit, quince, apple, a hint of mango, and a refreshing mentholated nuance that emerges with aeration. On the palate, it is soft with delicate freshness, full-bodied and round, boasting impressive length and a perfect balance between sweetness and freshness. The wine is powerful, mineral-driven, and saline. Its acidity provides a superb structure and a pure, crystalline tension. 【A perfect example of how to produce a late harvest wine of absolute delicacy, powerful, mineral and saline.】
🍴 This wine is a superb accompaniment to foie gras, rich dishes, blue cheeses, and various fruit and chocolate desserts. It can also be savored on its own as a meditative wine.
🥂 While delightful for immediate consumption, this wine greatly benefits from cellaring for several additional years, or even over 10 years, to fully express its richness and aromatic complexity. It is an ideal choice for receptions or other social gatherings. Serve at 8-10°C (46-50°F).
