Bardi D'alquier, Faugeres Les Grandes Bastides, 2012
🏰 【Hailed as a "formidable wine" by Robert Parker with a 92/100 score, the 2012 Bardi d'Alquier Faugères Les Grandes Bastides is an exceptional cuvée from a remarkable vintage, showcasing the best of Languedoc.】 This red wine, aged 24 months in 60% new oak, reveals a deep red hue with a slightly orange rim. The nose is intense and complex, offering aromas of black candied fruits like cherry, sour cherry, and blackberry, intertwined with spices, garrigue, orange peel, menthol, and leather. On the palate, it is deep, precise, and frank, with a generous character of juicy fruit, smooth yet present tannins, and a persistent finish of roasted notes and black fruits.
🍴 This rich and intense Faugères pairs exquisitely with roasted meats, such as a stuffed leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary crust, beef raviolis with wine sauce, or a traditional bull stew (gardiane de taureau). It's also a fantastic match for grilled lamb.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party or a special occasion, this wine is flattering and ready to drink now, yet possesses excellent aging potential, capable of developing further for 15 years or more. Serve at 15-18°C, ideally decanted 1-2 hours before serving to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
