🏰 Penfolds Yattarna is widely regarded as Australia's most significant Chardonnay, often dubbed the "White Grange" since its inaugural release in 1995. The 2020 vintage is an exercise in floral restraint, streamlined power, and palate-staining intensity of flavor. It's a sophisticated expression of Chardonnay, with the 2020 season providing a perfect backdrop. The wine is a multi-regional blend, with 68% sourced from Tasmania and the balance from Adelaide Hills, aged eight months in French oak barriques (86% new). 【 Australia's "White Grange" Chardonnay, renowned for its multi-regional blending and age-worthiness 】
It presents a pale gold color with a nose of white peach, lemon confit, gunflint, struck match, toasted hazelnut, and grapefruit, along with a distinct saline mineral quality from the Tasmanian component. Aromas also include fresh grapefruit, white peaches, lemon curd, hints of lemon butter, marzipan, and orange blossom. On the palate, it's refreshing with racy acidity, lifting bright, intense citrus and stone fruit flavors to a long finish. It feels weightless yet deep in flavor, with an intense, silky concentration and an unwavering drive of acidity. Flavors encompass ripe-peach, grilled-lemon, nectarine, grapefruit, toasted nuts, and a bracingly fresh acidity.
🥂 This tangy, tight-knit style is built for aging, with a recommended drinking window extending to 2038-2040. It's suitable for fine dining, special celebrations, or for cellaring to appreciate its evolution.
