Henri Rebourseau, Gevrey Chambertin Fonteny 1er Cru, 1994
🏰The 1994 Henri Rebourseau Gevrey Chambertin Fonteny 1er Cru is an 【elegant and intense expression of Gevrey-Chambertin from a Premier Cru vineyard】, a terroir famously described as "inexplicably touched by grace." This wine presents a cherry red appearance, with enticing notes of raspberry and spice on the nose. On the palate, it offers an elegant, tannin-rich structure that leads to a long and intense finish. Expect a complex bouquet featuring red fruit notes like raspberry and strawberry, complemented by earthy undertones of forest floor and leather, and subtle oak, nutmeg, and chocolate. Darker fruit flavors with flashes of red fruit, along with a textural, cushioned impression of violets and saline minerality, contribute to its depth and length.
🍴 This superb Pinot Noir is an ideal pairing for classic Burgundy dishes, particularly duck, goose, and various game birds.
🥂 A superb choice for a special dinner, especially with game or rich poultry dishes, where its elegance, complexity, and profound sense of terroir can be fully appreciated. This wine beautifully showcases the character of its age and origin.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a well-regarded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the northern Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland. The domaine produces principally red wines from the Pinot Noir variety. The estate began in the mid-19th century when Jean-Baptiste Rebourseau and his wife Louise-Victoire Philippon consolidated vineyard holdings. It was passed to his sons Émile and Henri, and in 1949 to Henri's son Pierre Rebourseau. In 1980, Pierre's grandson Jean de Surrel took over, shifting to organic and biodynamic viticulture. In 2018, Olivier and Martin Bouygues acquired a controlling share. Bénigne and Louis now manage the estate with Hervé Berland.
