🏰 The Henri Rebourseau Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 1990 is a magnificent example of 【aged Grand Cru Burgundy from a legendary vintage】, offering a complex tapestry of tertiary aromas and profound depth. The 1990 vintage in Burgundy is widely considered one of the greatest, producing wines of immense concentration, balance, and longevity. This Clos de Vougeot, now over three decades old, reveals an intoxicating bouquet of dried roses, forest floor, truffle, and sweet spices, with a silky texture and a lingering, ethereal finish.
🍴 This venerable Grand Cru would be sublime with classic Cantonese roasted goose, braised beef short ribs, or a rich mushroom and truffle dish. For Western cuisine, consider roasted game birds like pheasant or partridge, or a slow-cooked lamb shank.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps a significant anniversary or a gathering of serious wine connoisseurs. It's a rare opportunity to experience the magic of perfectly aged Burgundy. Given its age, handle with care; expect a fragile cork and sediment. Decant gently an hour or two before serving to allow it to open up, but be mindful of over-aeration. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a well-regarded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the northern Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland. The domaine produces principally red wines from the Pinot Noir variety. The estate began in the mid-19th century when Jean-Baptiste Rebourseau and his wife Louise-Victoire Philippon consolidated vineyard holdings. It was passed to his sons Émile and Henri, and in 1949 to Henri's son Pierre Rebourseau. In 1980, Pierre's grandson Jean de Surrel took over, shifting to organic and biodynamic viticulture. In 2018, Olivier and Martin Bouygues acquired a controlling share. Bénigne and Louis now manage the estate with Hervé Berland.
