🏰Henri Rebourseau Gevrey Chambertin 1989 is a 【rare and mature expression from a classic Burgundy vintage】, offering a unique glimpse into the elegance and evolution of aged Pinot Noir. The 1989 vintage for red Burgundy was generally considered very good to excellent, known for producing wines with ripeness, richness, and good underlying structure, many of which are still drinking beautifully today if properly stored. This wine, from a respected Gevrey-Chambertin producer, will likely display a beautiful evolution of tertiary aromas, such as forest floor, dried leaves, leather, and truffle, alongside faded red fruit notes like dried cherry and cranberry. The palate should be silky and elegant, with resolved tannins and a long, complex finish. Expect some bricking in color, indicative of its age.
🍴 This venerable Gevrey-Chambertin is best paired with classic French cuisine, particularly roasted game birds like pheasant or duck, rich mushroom dishes, or a selection of aged, firm cheeses.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a very special, intimate dinner for connoisseurs, a milestone anniversary, or a contemplative tasting session. This is a mature wine that requires careful handling. Stand the bottle upright for several days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently just before serving to remove sediment, but be mindful of its age – extended aeration might diminish delicate aromas. Always check the cork carefully. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Be prepared for potential bottle variation due to its significant age, but approach with a positive expectation of a truly unique experience.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Henri Rebourseau is a well-regarded wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the northern Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland. The domaine produces principally red wines from the Pinot Noir variety. The estate began in the mid-19th century when Jean-Baptiste Rebourseau and his wife Louise-Victoire Philippon consolidated vineyard holdings. It was passed to his sons Émile and Henri, and in 1949 to Henri's son Pierre Rebourseau. In 1980, Pierre's grandson Jean de Surrel took over, shifting to organic and biodynamic viticulture. In 2018, Olivier and Martin Bouygues acquired a controlling share. Bénigne and Louis now manage the estate with Hervé Berland.
