Des Comtes Lafon, Meursault Clos De La Barre, 2014
🏰 The 2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre is a 【benchmark white Burgundy, celebrated for its exceptional balance, richness, and profound minerality】 from a prime monopole vineyard. The 2014 vintage in Burgundy for whites was generally excellent, producing wines with lovely freshness and concentration. This wine typically offers a complex bouquet of ripe citrus, white flowers, toasted nuts, and a distinctive stony minerality, often with hints of butter and hazelnut. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, yet beautifully structured by vibrant acidity, leading to a long, saline, and intensely flavorful finish.
🍴 This magnificent Meursault is a superb match for luxurious seafood and poultry dishes. Think roasted turbot with beurre blanc, pan-seared scallops with truffle risotto, or free-range chicken in a rich cream sauce. It also pairs wonderfully with aged Comté or other firm, nutty cheeses.
🥂 An ideal wine for a grand celebration, a serious white Burgundy tasting, or as a prized addition to any cellar. It's a wine that offers immense pleasure now but will continue to evolve and gain complexity over many years.
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
