FEATURES
🏰 The 1995 Barbeito Madeira Verdelho is a truly special fortified wine, bottled in 2019 as part of a series paying tribute to Mr. Manuel Eugénio Fernandes, a long-time grape supplier to Barbeito. Only 1030 individually numbered bottles were filled. This 1995 vintage, from a year generally considered great for many wine regions, offers a glimpse into the old-world style of Madeira, showcasing remarkable complexity and longevity. Expect a medium golden color with greenish highlights. The pronounced bouquet reveals dried figs, prunes, caramel, toast, chocolate, menthol notes, fresh pine, dried carob, black tea, and plum. On the palate, it is sweet yet delicately fresh, with beautifully balanced and integrated high acidity, a silky texture, and intense flavors of dried fruits, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, and hints of coffee, leading to an everlasting, elegant, and long savory finish. The high acidity provides a refreshing, almost spicy freshness. 【 A rare 1995 Frasqueira Verdelho, a tribute bottling with only 1030 individually numbered bottles. 】
Given its age, this wine is a testament to time and tradition. While still vibrant, older Madeiras can be delicate. The cork and capsule may be fragile, so a specialized opener like a Durand or Ah-So is recommended for careful extraction. Decanting is advisable to separate any potential sediment and allow the wine to fully express its complex aromas, but do so gently.
🍴 This versatile Madeira is excellent as an aperitif, pairing well with cheese. It also complements cakes and cream. For savory options, consider French onion soup, beef dishes, or even grilled octopus, where its acidity and richness can create a fantastic match.
🥂 This is a wine for contemplation and celebration, perfect for a connoisseur's tasting, a significant anniversary, or as a digestif after a fine meal. Serve best at 14°C or a low room temperature of 16°C. Once opened, it will maintain good condition for several months.
