FEATURES
🏰 The 1992 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon is a testament to the longevity and profound character of fine Hermitage wines. While specific reviews for this exact vintage are not widely available, Hermitage, crafted from Syrah, is renowned for its concentration, tannic structure, and aromatic complexity. This wine represents an 【 iconic Hermitage from a respected producer, showcasing age-worthiness 】. For a wine of this age, one can anticipate a beautiful evolution of flavors and aromas, moving beyond primary fruit to embrace complex tertiary notes that only time can bestow. Expect a mature wine with a captivating bouquet of dried black fruits, savory notes of leather and tobacco, hints of forest floor, and perhaps a touch of truffle or exotic spice. The palate, while still structured, should offer a softer, more integrated tannic profile than in its youth, with a lingering finish that speaks of its distinguished origins and graceful aging. 🍴 This mature Hermitage is an exquisite partner for rich, savory dishes. Consider classic pairings such as slow-roasted lamb shanks, game birds like grouse or pheasant, hearty beef stews, or dishes featuring truffles. Its evolved character also complements aged hard cheeses beautifully. 🥂 This 1992 Ermitage Le Pavillon is a special occasion wine, ideal for a connoisseur's dinner, a significant anniversary, or a milestone celebration. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the profound depth and complexity that only decades of careful cellaring can achieve. Serving Advice: This 1992 vintage is a mature wine, and while Hermitage is known for its longevity, it should be handled with care. Expect the cork to be fragile, so a Durand or Ah-So opener is highly recommended. Decanting for a short period (30-60 minutes) can help separate any sediment and allow the wine to open up, but be mindful of over-decanting very old wines, as they can fade quickly. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
