FEATURES
🏰Château Rieussec 1990 is a monumental Sauternes from a legendary vintage, widely considered one of the greatest sweet wines ever made. The 1990 vintage in Sauternes was exceptional, characterized by an early and very dry growing season, with sufficient humidity for noble rot to develop rapidly and homogeneously, resulting in intensely concentrated grapes. This 36-year-old masterpiece is celebrated for its 【complex, seductive bouquet of dried apricots, candied oranges, and peaches, accompanied by rich notes of honey, caramel, and delicate vanilla.】 On the palate, it unfolds with a luxurious, creamy texture and intense aromas of dried fruit, honey, and almonds, harmoniously blending with hints of spice and roasted nuts. Fresh acidity balances the sweetness, lending structure and vibrancy, leading to an impressively long and rich finish.
🍴 This powerful and hedonistic sweet wine is an excellent accompaniment to rich desserts like crème brûlée or fruity desserts. It's also a classic pairing with foie gras, blue cheese, and mature cheeses like Roquefort. Its complexity allows it to be a meditative sipping experience on its own.
🥂 Perfect for the grand finale of an unforgettable meal, a milestone celebration, or as a true collector's gem. This wine has reached its full maturity but is still aging-worthy for many years, gaining depth and complexity. When serving, be mindful of the older cork and capsule. Decant at 12-14°C (54-57°F) to allow its intricate aromas to unfold, but avoid over-decanting older vintages, just enough to remove sediment.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Rieussec is a wine producer located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux. The 93 hectares (230 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly with Semillon, alongside plots of Sauvignon Blanc and a small amount of Muscadelle. The terroir in Sauternes helps the spread of Botrytis cinerea, and Rieussec's grapes are hand-harvested as they are affected by noble rot. The best bunches are used to make the grand vin, which after fermentation spends 26 months in oak, about half new. All other juice isused to make the second wine, Carmes de Rieussec, which is only aged for 18 months. A dry white wine, R de Rieussec, is made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and is partially barrel-fermented.
