Joseph Drouhin, Beaune Clos Des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru, 2023
🏰 The 2023 vintage in Burgundy is heralded as a year of high quality, with Joseph Drouhin's Beaune Clos des Mouches Rouge 1er Cru showing beautifully. It bursts with aromas of sweet berries, spices, orange zest, and new oak. On the palate, it reveals an iodine, blackberry, and rose-stem character, offering plenty of fruit and depth. It is medium-bodied with fine tannins that caress the palate, providing endless flavors of Indian spices, flint, nutmeg, and a light crust. Expect lovely cherry fruit with hints of lavender and rosemary, all wrapped in a silky and dense texture. 【 James Suckling 98 points, Top 100 Wines of the World 2025 】
🍴 This exquisite Pinot Noir is a superb match for filet mignon, duck, and ripe cheeses. It also pairs well with mixed bean salad, grilled salmon, roasted quail, or a mixed grill. For a more adventurous pairing, consider oysters with a dash of wild garlic oil.
🥂 While drinkable now, this wine will benefit from three to four years of further aging, offering a broad drinking window and developing greater complexity. It is expected to drink beautifully from 2028-2035.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
