【Philipponnat's Le Leon Grand Cru Extra Brut 2015 is an exceptional Blanc de Noirs, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir from a historic, very steep plot in the Grand Cru of Aÿ.】 The 2015 vintage, though warm and dry, yielded a Champagne of remarkable clarity, control, and crispness. This wine displays a golden hue with slightly coppery highlights. The expressive and intense nose reveals spicy notes of gingerbread and honey, evolving with aeration to mango, exotic fruits, and lightly smoky nuances of tobacco and honey. The palate is fruity and generous, offering red-fleshed fruits, wild berries, blackberry, guava, and a touch of vanilla, balanced by a zesty freshness and a saline finish with subtle bitter notes of bergamot. Critics also note white pepper, mint, chalk, yellow apple, lemon zest, toastiness, pear, spicecake, ginger, dried flowers, and plum. It can be cellared for around ten additional years.
